REWILDING THE ESTATE
175,000 NATIVE PLANTS AND TREES SO FAR
It was always intended that Te Weka would be a living, breathing, evolving environment.
At the heart of this intention is tree planting on extensive areas of common land. To date more than 175,000 native trees have been re-established in what was once a dense blanket of pine trees. These have been supplemented on many of the south facing slopes by significant groupings of species such as redwoods, cedars, and Himalayan oaks.
Common land at Te Weka far outweighs residential land. Over 110 hectares of common land has been set aside permanently for all residents to share and enjoy. No additional development will happen within the Te Weka Estate including on these precious areas.
ENCOURAGING BIRDLIFE
It is envisaged that with time, these trees will encourage abundant birdlife including many from the Cape Sanctuary at Cape Kidnappers finding their way here. There is also the potential to introduce Kiwi and other flightless native birds to the area.

PLANTING YOUR OWN FAMILY TREE
When you purchase a site at Te Weka, we will walk with you over the vast areas of common land and help you select an area that you feel a connection with. We will then discuss with you the types of trees that will grow best there. We will then provide you with 100 young plants and trees for you and your family to plant there. It will be your family place to look after, protect and watch transform as the years – and even generations - go by.
THIS EVER-GROWING CANOPY OF TREES WILL ALSO PROVIDE SPECTACULAR HIDDEN PATHWAYS AND TRACKS FOR WALKING, HIKING AND MOUNTAIN BIKING THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN ESTABLISHED.
PEST CONTROL
Stoats, ferrets, and weasels are controlled via a trapping network over Te Weka. These traps are all digitally located and results recorded on Trap.nz. These traps are all up to DOC standards, checked regularly, and supplemented by regularly night shooting by our friends at Better Nature. No poison is used up Te Weka.
